The Universe of The Universe Wiki

NOTE: This is a recently updated set of rules laid out, and as such may change the dynamic of the community.

These are general rules to follow. Breaking any of them (except those in green) will get you some sort of punishment, and repeated offenses will add up, so don't break them and you'll be fine.

Punishments

The italics/bold system will be retiring in favor of the color system to show how severe each rule is when broken, ranging from green to red and in-between. As such, punishments will be dependent on the colors of each rule.

  • Green: At most you'll be left with a note.
    They're basically reminders.
  • Lime: You may get a few warnings before the punishments stack up and become worse.
  • Yellow: Same ordeal as lime, but the warnings are a bit harsher, and repeated offenses could result in a block.
  • Orange: You will get a single warning before repeated offenses result in a relatively short block (1 day to 1 week), but beware of the consequences of breaking multiple of them as they do stack.
  • Red: This is for those that harm the wiki either through vandalism, a raid or some other method. Really, just don't break these rules if you don't want to risk going through a long and lengthy (sometimes indefinite) block.
Rules in red will prompt a block and no warning.

Notes

  1. The punishments will vary depending on how much or severe each rule was broken in its respective color.
  2. Warnings will stack until 30 days have passed (where it will reset).

Basic rules

  • Having common sense shouldn't be a rule, but it is here to remind you anyway.
  1. Account name*: This is for users deemed to have an inappropriate name. Having an offensive name will not be tolerated. BUT, if you haven't changed your name, you'll have one opportunity to do so to a more acceptable name. Make that opportunity count.
Users with acceptable names don't have to worry about this.
  2. Fandom's ToU: You agree to Fandom's Terms of Use upon using their website. Do not violate those terms and you'll be good.

Rules for discussions and general behavior

These rules are for discussions and overall interaction between users.

  1. Being civil: Act normal when conversing with someone in discussions or in a comment. Have people understand what you're trying to say as well, since speaking gibberish will make you look random.
If you make any jokes of any serious events in a post, you will be given a short block for being uncivil. This also includes anything from causing a conflict or drama and user mistrust.
  2. Promotion: Be sure what you're promoting is safe for work, as NSFW is absolutely not allowed here. Wiki promotion may be prohibited, but it is up to the bureaucrat's discretion of whether or not a pass for it is given.
  3. Multiple accounts: It's best not to use more than one account as you could be sock-puppeting and that's a no-no.
This includes block-evading, so don't do that as well.
  4. Harassment: This shouldn't be something you should do to others as it makes you look bad in general, especially towards moderators.
Do not intimidate others as well
  5. Following community guidelines: This shouldn't be hard to understand since it's community guidelines Fandom set out. Don't do anything that violates the guidelines imposed on you. This includes illegal activity, hate speech, disturbing content, threats towards others, impersonation, and racist stuff. Overall, just be respectful.
For swears, keep it to a minimum.
  6. Organizing posts: Keep your posts in the right categories. It's not a big deal, but it helps to clear up confusion about the topic of each post.
  7. Post quality: Make your posts understandable. Comprehension of each post should be recognizable, so no filler posts or spam posts (just merge them into one post so you don't flood discussions).
  8. Spam: In any form, comment, reply, or message, don't spam in a post, comment, or message.

These rules should give an idea on how to behave without being much of a nuisance towards others.

Rules for editing

These rules are for whenever you edit or create a page of some sort, whether it'd be a character, type of character, places and locations, you name it.

  1. Page quality: The quality of each page is dependent on a few factors. Comprehension, formatting, and requirements.
    1. Each page requires an infobox, text, and a category (instead of having to rely on your page being over 500 bytes).
    2. You'll have at least a week to finish your page up to default standards. If you don't finish the page in time, you may have your page either moved to your blogs or deleted.
    3. If the page is spam, it will be deleted, and so will any spam pages created.
  2. Character: There will be multiple rules for a character as there's much one can do with a character.
    1. Originality: Be sure to not use existing images of another character and don't plagiarize articles. Those with the latter may get deleted as a result.
    2. Capabilities: TL;DR: Make your characters reasonable and not over-exaggerate its capabilities. Everyone has their own pros and cons after all.
    3. Retconning: Don't change what characters from other creators have set in stone already such as anything Vince has made.
    4. Celestia: This rule exists due to users making stuff from Celestia such as an image of planets or stars. If you're going (or planning) to make assets (or orbits) out of Celestia add-ons, make sure to leave or give credit to [the creators]. They DO see this wiki, since it's stuck in Google Images!
  3. Leaderboard: This isn't a competition, nor should it be considered as such. Don't intentionally point-farm your way to reach the leaderboard, it isn't tolerated.
  4. Content: This is more of general content that may be included in whatever page.
    1. Try avoiding long text walls.
    2. Dialogue should not be NSFW or racist.
    3. Extra info is optional. There's usually a gallery or trivia at most.
    4. Try to make stuff that is related to the wiki. Cross-pathing to other wikis is allowed, though including stuff that may be from another wiki isn't. This is also why Galactic Comics is not related to Object Cosmos. The two aren't the same.
    5. Avoid adding unnecessary categories.
    6. There shouldn't be any real-life images on this wiki. You have Wikipedia for that.
  5. Usage of AI: Don't let AI replace you. Don't use AI for your pages in general. It'll make you genuine without it, even if you're bad at making pages.
  6. Vandalism: If it wasn't obvious enough, do not intentionally vandalize.

These rules should give what makes a page a page on this wiki.

Rules for moderators and up

These are additional rules for anyone who is a moderator and up. Bureaucrats should adapt these rules as necessary to prevent the abuse of powers given to users after promotion. Speaking of which...

  1. Abuse of powers: Going in order, don't delete pages, images, (un)block, promote, or demote users without a valid reason. If broken multiple times, there will be consequences.
  2. Post-locking: Don't lock a post unless said post goes too far or is disrespectful in general. This also applies to deleting posts.
  3. Post-editing: Maybe just don't edit posts in general.
  4. Behavior: Despite being a moderator, you still have responsibilities for your actions and behavior, so while you're at it, don't be a douchebag to others. It doesn't make you look good as a moderator.
  5. Changes to sysop-protected pages: This really only applies to moderators and sometimes admins, but for extremely important pages that are sysop-protected (templates excluded unless it's important), it's a good idea to let others know changes you might make to those specified pages. It's not anything major, so you will likely not get demoted.

These rules, when broken (apart from mod rule 5), may result in demotion if necessary. Otherwise, it is in place of a block, which may be inflicted upon a misbehaving moderator if it goes too far.

Appeals

You can contest your block if you feel like the block was unjustified, either through your message wall or at the community central. A second chance at an appeal is unlikely if your first appeal gets rejected depending on the reasoning.

Keep in mind, these rules are expected to change every now and then, considering whether or not the community is fit for those rules.
